John A. Eberle “Mr. Eb”, 89, of Delphi, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette, IN. John was born on May 6, 1936, in Lafayette, to the late John Eberle Sr. and Lucille (Weibers) Eberle.
On October 5, 1963 John married the love of his life, Kathryn “Lorane” (Ray) Eberle, in Otterbein and she survives. They were blessed with 62 years of marriage. John graduated from Otterbein High School in 1955. After graduation, he proudly served in the United States Army where he was stationed in Alaska. John later went on to work as a Mechanic at Bill Andrews Oldsmobile. From there, he retired from the Anderson’s Cob Mill.
In his free time, John enjoyed traveling with his wife and enjoyed many trips to Mt. Rushmore, Grand Teton’s, Disney, and the Ruts. John enjoyed coaching little league and babe ruth with his best friend Dick Hawn. John enjoyed making relationships with his teams over the years. John loved to fish, and he was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. His most cherished past time was spent with his loving family.
Surviving John include is loving wife; Kathryn “Lorane” Eberle, children; John (Tammy) Eberle, Jean (Phil) Austin, Laura (Chris) Meritt, Daniel (Jill) Eberle, a sister; Mary Ewing, 9 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by a sister; Helen Chafin, and a brother; Edward Eberle.
A Mass of Christian Burial honoring the life of John will be celebrated on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 11 am, located at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 207 Washington St., Delphi, with Father David Buckles the celebrant. Friends may visit with the family the evening before on Friday, January 23, 2026, beginning at 5 pm where Military Rites will be performed, and ending at 8 pm, located at Shirey Funeral Home, 121 N Union St, Delphi, IN 46923. Burial will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery in Lafayette.
