Phillip Dale Kauffman

Phillip Kauffman, 77, of Colburn, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at home surrounded by family. He was born on January 28, 1946, to the late Bob and Maxine (Harmon) Kauffman, in Lafayette, Indiana.

On May 13, 2004, Phil married Brenda (Abrams) Kauffman, at Delphi United Methodist Church.

Phil grew up in Colburn and never lived too far from home. He graduated from East Tipp High School and later went on to serve in the United States Navy for 4 years. After leaving the Navy, Phil started working at Alcoa and eventually retiring in 2007 where he dedicated 38 years of service.

Phil’s first marriage was to Nancy Hawkins, who preceded him in death in 2000. Her daughter Susan (Greg) Shirar of Lexington, KY, always considered him Dad. Susan has 2 brothers living and one sister deceased.

Phil was an avid outdoorsman. From the time he was young he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and trapping. Mushroom hunting was also a passion of his. In earlier years he was an excellent bowler and he enjoyed playing cards. He was also a 53 year member of the Delphi American Legion along with being a union member.

Most considered Phil to be a quiet man most of the time, but he dearly loved his family and having a good time. He enjoyed watching Purdue football and basketball. Brenda and Phil enjoyed travelling to Alaska, and they loved going to concerts together. Phil had a passion for nature and especially for dogs. Many strays were welcomed home.

Survivors include his wife of 19 years; Brenda (Abrams) Kauffman, brother; Van (Diana) Kauffman, of Colburn, several nieces and nephews, and step grandchildren children who gratefully appreciated him.

A funeral service honoring the life of Phillip will be held at 11 am, on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Davidson Funeral Home, located at 121 N. Union Street, Delphi, In, with pastor Bob Duke officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Davidson Funeral Home, from 5-7 pm.

Burial will follow at Colburn Lutheran Cemetery where Military Honors will be performed by local VFW post 9383, and the United States Navy.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that you enjoy a dinner with someone you love, and to dress casually to the visitation and funeral.
