Phillip “Phil” Girton, 87, of Delphi, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 27, 2025, at IU Health University Hospital in Indianapolis. Phil was born on February, 9, 1938, in Michigan City, Indiana, to the late John and Cora (Herr) Girton.
On February 14, 1959, Phil married the love of his life Janice (Brewer) Girton at St. Matthews Church in Delphi and she survives. They were happily married for over 66 years.
Phil was a 1956 graduate of Delphi High School. Phil also proudly served in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1961. After school Phil attended Purdue, and later went on to be a partner at Lafayette Business Machines, and eventually part time at Times Past Antique Store. After retirement Janice and Phil enjoyed wintering together in Florida.
In his free time, Phil enjoyed starting his morning over coffee with his friends at the “Liars Table.” Phil enjoyed volunteering at the Delphi Food Pantry, collecting antiques, shooting trap, and golfing. Phil’s most cherished past time was spent with his loving family, and especially his grandchildren.
Surviving Phil include his loving wife; Janice Girton, son; Alan (Michelle) Girton, daughter; Kathy (Mike) Taylor, sister; Nancy Cripe, brother; Robert (Debbie Lowe) Dunlap, grandchildren; Danielle (Lucas) Michael, Cole Girton, Amanda Taylor, Nick (Dawn) Taylor, great- grandchildren; Leah Weber, Sawyer Girton, Monroe Michael, Philip Taylor, Ethan Howey, Torrence Taylor, and several nieces and nephews.
Phil was preceded in death by his step brothers; Stanley, Robert, Paul, Donald, and George Banes.
A funeral service honoring the life of Phil will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at 11 am, located at Shirey Funeral Home, 121 N Union St, Delphi, with Pastor Bob Duke officiating. Friends may visit with the family the evening before on Wednesday July 2, 2025 beginning at 4 pm. Burial will follow at Masonic Cemetery where Military Rites will be performed.
